John's star can be found on Canada's walk of fame

John played clarinet at high school, a skill that would later be seen in the role of Yosh Schmenge

During his early SCTV stage days, John had the nickname "Johnny Toronto"

John has appeared on a Canadian postage stamp

After the success of "Splash" in 1984, John signed a deal with the Touchstone pictures division of Disney to develop three films a year for the studios in the capacity of writer, performer & creative producer

John used to own the Toronto Argonauts football team with tycoon Bruce McNall and hockey legend Wayne Gretzky

After a chance meeting with director Steven Spielberg at a party, who then offered John a part in his new movie, JFK. John shrugged the offer, not taking it seriously and told the director "There are any number of leeches around here who want the job more than I do!" A few days later John received a call, officially offering him the role.

John married Rosemary Margaret Hobor in April of 1979 at St. Basil's Roman Catholic Church in midtown Toronto

John's radio show "Radio Kandy" began in 1989. A weekly two hour show, starting at 8 o'clock on Sunday mornings and carried on over three hundred stations accross the U.S. and Canada. Listeners would hear "You're listening to Radio Kandy...What else have you got to do?"

John had his own Saturday morning cartoon show called "Camp Candy" set in a summer camp, his children, Jennifer and Christopher also provided voices for the show

John was originally cast the part of Louis Tully in "Ghostbusters" but the part eventually went to his former SCTV colleague Rick Moranis

Camp Candy also produced a comic of the same name, published by Marvel Comics

John showed up at the Toronto Argonauts 1991 football team's pre-season bash wearing the suit from his part in JFK, complete with hat and sunglasses, much to the delight of his four hundred guests. Close friends "The Blues Brothers" Dan Aykroyd & John Belushi performed that night also in the packed-out Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto.

John is interred in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, California.

His funeral Mass, held at St. Michael's Cathedral, was broadcast live, on television, across Canada

His epitaph reads;

"In loving memory, One Heart and One Soul, We Miss You Dearly"

John was once declared a Sex Symbol by his female fan base, to which his wife Rose replied;

  "He may be a sex symbol, but he's my sex symbol"
